Over 8,800 BTO flats have been completed in Tengah, and residents are now relocating to the Garden district

More than 8800 Housing Board flats in Tengah are completed, which is nearly 40 per cent of the 23,000 flats offered so far in the new town.

Garden, the second of five Tengah housing districts to be constructed, has also seen residents move into new residences. Plantation is the first of the five housing districts being built in Tengah.

The keys to the 2,936 units of Garden, or 98% of the booked 3,306 units, have been collected.

As of Nov 15, 7,921 households had received their keys to their apartments in eight Build-to Order (BTO), projects located in the Plantation and Garden district.

The first group of Tengah residents collected the keys to their homes in the Plantation district towards the end of August 2023.

It is touted as an eco-friendly, car-lite “forest” town the 700ha region in the west region is the first new HDB town to be developed since Punggol nearly two decades ago.

Tengah is divided into five districts, and will offer some 42,000 new homes when fully completed.

Tengah’s Garden district, which covers 80ha, is expected to offer up to 6,500 brand new homes when completed.

Part of a 900m-long green connector known as Garden Farmway, which links residents to facilities for recreation like playgrounds, allotment gardens, and fitness centers, opened in November.

HDB’s update on the town’s progress said that a second stretch of the town will be completed by the beginning of the quarter 2025.

Residents of the Garden district will be served by an eating house and a market within the Garden Vines @ Tengah BTO project, which is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025. A bakery as well as a dental and medical clinic are also planned.

In the Plantation district in the Plantation district, the Plantation Farmway, which connects four BTO projects in the area to the town’s initial neighbourhood centre, will be completed by the end 2024.

In the next few months the time, a community center will be ready.

HDB announced that 40 new shops and eateries were opened in the Plantation Plaza neighborhood centre. These include a Swensen’s Restaurant, DIY Hub hardware store and Teo Heng Family KTV Studio.

In June, the first company to open was a Giant grocery store. A foodcourt called Koufu was followed by an McDonald’s restaurant.

In September and August two pre-schools situated in the Plantation Grange BTO project as well as the Plantation Acres BTO project opened. In 2025, two additional preschools will be established in the Plantation district.

HDB has stated that it will collaborate with the Early Childhood Development Agency in order to gradually open pre-schools in each BTO project located within the Garden district.

Residents are now being served by four bus services. City Direct’s bus route 674, that connects Tengah residents to the Central Business District, began in operation on the 25th of November. Three bus services – 870, 871 and 992 take residents to Bukit Batok and Jurong East.

As Tengah town grows with more amenities and infrastructure in and surrounding Tengah will be rolled out to serve residents and to provide the same level of convenience of towns that are already HDB towns.
